Limit Your Chance of Malpractice as a Patient
No one wants to be a victim of medical malpractice, but there are some things that you can do to make sure that you don’t find yourself in a potentially rough situation.
Here are some ways to make sure that you are protected:
- Do your research. Make sure you know all that there is to know about the medical condition that you have been diagnosed with.
- Have a list of questions prepared for the doctor. In the moment you can forget what you really want to ask, it helps to have a list ready to go. Make sure that the questions are answered in a way that you feel satisfied with.
- You are your own best advocate, make sure that you speak up if you feel like something is amiss. If you don’t think that you can do it for yourself, bring someone with you who will.
- It is very important to make sure that you are seeing a doctor that you trust. However, you also need to listen to your body. In other words if something that your doctor is telling you doesn’t line up with your gut feeling, speak up. You know your own body better than anyone else.
